When we first meet the boy called Kida Masaomi, he appears to be a normal, happy young boy who lives a carefree life in the city. As one could imagine, he must live a fairly peaceful and happy existence... expect, that isn't entirely true at all. When he moved into the big city, he experienced more than he could have possibly imagined, and the burden he now carries weighs down on him heavily. Anyways, this is something we'll get back to, because it is something hidden underneath his cheery outer shell. When Mikado moves to the big city ( a few years after Kida does ) he finally reunites with his best friend, noting that he hasn't changed at all. Of course, while this is a facade to cover his scars, it is also the true Kida Masaomi, one that would have only been if he had not formed a gang during his middle school years.
To begin with the simple stuff, Kida is a flirt. A skirt-chaser. The Lover Boy Type. A wannabe ladies man. He tends to talk big about picking up girls and starting up a harem, although his efforts have gotten him no where. If you're a guy and you want to hang with Kida, then you better attract some ladies because he wants to go pick up a pretty girl or two. He appears to be very thick-skinned, because when a lady shoots him down, he'll keep on insisting until they... well, walk away. It's really embarrassing. But hey, the boy's confident! Going hand-in-hand with this, he's a loud and out-going boy who's not afraid to speak his mind. Every day with Kida will be one that's full of energy and awful jokes since he has no problem with being overly dramatic. To others, he appears to have little shame, and he's probably considered the class clown of the class. Friendly and sociable to those around him, Kida's just a young boy enjoying his youth. Because really, all he wants to do is be a happy normal boy living out his youthful teenage years. That's the keyword sentence, right there.
We find out later that after he's found himself hitting rock bottom, his best friend, Mikado, became his anchor. Exaggerating the excitement of the city, he was able to convince him to move to Ikebukuro, even though he knew it was simply a desperate attempt to have someone he knew with him. Despite his selfishness, he found himself a place to be, with his best friend and a girl named Anri Sonohara. Often joking that they were in a love triangle, it's clear that these days were the happiest he's ever been in a while. It is almost as if he was able to wrap himself in a false illusion of being a normal boy, because even though he's living in reality, he's still running away from his guilt.
Finally coming to the inner core of Kida, we can unwrap his background story to reveal what makes him an (ab)normal boy. Understanding how outgoing he is, it's not surprising that Kida is a charismatic boy. People flocked to him naturally, and before he realized it, he had formed a gang. Seemingly harmless at first, the Kida then could have never predicted that it would become one of the biggest mistakes of his life. At first it just seemed like a childish group of people, banning together to go against a grown-up's society. Like playing pretend, something many young kids do, only they're playing house and doctor instead. Then suddenly, it stopped becoming make believe, but it also stopped becoming what Kida had wanted. He was never a truly ideal leader, and he had never intended for his gang to grow so dark. What Kida wanted was a gang that enjoyed their youth, not one that fought for territory and became involved in gang wars.
However, by now it was too late to stop it, because eventually his charm had captivated too big of a member list, and the Yellow Scarves had gotten out of control. He was trapped. The pressure of being looked up to had caused everything to spiral out of control, because Kida never had a good feeling about this gang. Instead, he felt as if he was slowly falling into a pit of despair. And this isn't even the end of it.
To get there, we have to first sidetrack to another topic. His love life. What do you mean he has a love life? No, seriously. While his gang was thriving, Kida met a girl named Saki Mikajima. They started dating even though she had a glaring flaw, which is being too obsessed over a dangerous man named Izaya Orihara. Keeping his distance from this flea ( Shizuo's words. ) , he might have saved himself from getting burned, but Izaya had a plan of his own. The Yellow Scarves were losing to the Blue Squares in just about every fight they've had, and they couldn't seem to do anything about it. Persuaded by Saki, Kida turned to Izaya for help, not knowing that he will be feeding them both information to control the 'war'. No, he was too busy enjoying his victories, and from that point on he was on top of the world... until Saki gave herself to the Blue Squares as hostage.
Long story short, they called Kida, threatening to break Saki's legs if he doesn't give himself up but he doesn't go. Although he had rushed all the way to the destination meeting spot, his feet had suddenly stopped before he could get there. The reckless passion that he felt dwindled and fear took over. He doesn't go. Luckily Saki had been saved, but it's made clear by Izaya that she will no longer be able to walk. Overcame with guilt, Kida drops everything that he had started. He drops out of the gang, which has never officially disbanded, and he spends his day as if he were a carefree teenager, pretending not to notice that the Yellow Scarves took over a great majority of the city and pretending that he could escape from his past.
Needless to say, Kida Masaomi is a coward, and he hates himself for it. Finding it easier to run away, he ignores all the signs of his past even if they're right in his face. Still a good kid at heart, his friends are the only thing keeping him grounded, and he would do whatever it takes to protect them. He won't make the same mistake he did with Saki. This is why when Anri had gotten hurt due to the Slasher incident, Kida becomes frustrated in his helplessness and went back to the Yellow Scarves. Even though he knew it was a dead end move, he felt that he had no other choice. This is his second chance.
- ★ COURT ALLIANCE: Unseelie. Looking at the 9 alignments, I would rate him to be a chaotic neutral. It's clear that Kida isn't afraid to take risks, even after making his first mistake. By now, he believes in doing whatever it takes to protect his friends which goes well with 'passion before duty' . He values freedom, and while he does want to be a normal boy, it is shown that he takes the impulsive and chaotic route again and again even in the novels. You think twice would be enough but no.
- ★ ABILITIES: Besides failing to pick up girls, Kida is an efficient fighter. He has fought frequently as a gang leader, taking on whole groups at once. He is also very charismatic as it is definitely out of the ordinary for a boy from middle school to gather such a large group with his voice and in his own power. The world that Kida had plenty of reason to hate also contained the people he loved, people that were separated from him when he found himself here. To be forced into fighting a war to keep your world from begin destroyed, now that was a bad joke. And Mikado said his jokes were bad. He thinks about this and laughs bitterly to himself, because this is really such a bad joke.
With his phone from Ikebukuro in hand, Kida attempts to send another text message to his friends. This would be the fourteenth message he had tried sending since his arrival. He tends to send one or two a day, maybe three if he's feeling particularly lucky. Luck was never really on his side anyways, and he sighs when he sees his fifteenth message bounce back. He shuts off his phone, trying to ignore the error message on the screen. "So it's not going to work now either... huh?" Figures.
Although said in a light-hearted tone to himself, his heart was heavy. Having only just banded the Yellow Scarves together again, he was brought here to fight in a different war. Unable to redeem himself, he's placed with an even heavier burden. How did this happen? He just wanted to be normal.

But, as we all have barriers in love I also have a problem. I don't know the details of him well enough to give any of you ladies out there some description so I'll here be asking for two things!

Hey, hey! Look! Lovely members of Somarium, I have made a masterpiece~!
[The Dreamberry then is turned to a certain man named Izaya, his face drawn all over. Kida had found him asleep, but after several attempts to wake him up and failing he decided to get out the permanent marker. So now Izaya has a mustache, two black eyes, and several random pictures overlapping each other (there is only so much you can draw on a persons face) The pictures seemed rather odd and not something you'd expect to see drawn on as a prank. It consisted of child-like pictures such as a train riding on Izayas eye brows, ripples with simple looking fishes on his right cheek and an airplane flying through the clouds on his left. Oh and lets not forget rainbows, swirls, and...well feel free to use your imagination. They were really simple doodles, expect Kida had gotten so carried away with drawing that it was a bit hard to make out all the pictures by themselves anymore and it rather looked more like random scribbling.
However, there was one very noticeable thing. The word BASTARD was clearly written on his forehead.]

So now Izaya has a mustache, two black eyes, and several random pictures overlapping each other (there is only so much you can draw on a persons face) The pictures seemed rather odd and not something you'd expect to see drawn on as a prank. It consisted of child-like pictures such as a train riding on Izayas eye brows, ripples with simple looking fishes on his right cheek and an airplane flying through the clouds on his left. Oh and lets not forget rainbows, swirls, and...well feel free to use your imagination. They were really simple doodles, expect Kida had gotten so carried away with drawing that it was a bit hard to make out all the pictures by themselves anymore and it rather looked more like random scribbling.
However, there was one very noticeable thing. The word BASTARD was clearly written on his forehead.]
...I wonder if I should just leave him like this...
Ah! And I seemed to have forgotten to sign it~ [Annnd so adding on to the multiple overlapping pictures he writes "Kida is the best~" before capping the marker as to end his work.] There we go!
